Torbay Mencap is a registered charity (Charity no. 1103726) and have been active in our community for nearly 70 years. This year alone we have allocated over £5,000 to sustainable projects helping local people with learning difficulties and disabilities.
A person with a learning disability has impaired intellectual ability. They may experience difficulty with everyday activities such as household tasks, socialising or managing money. A learning disability affects someone for their whole life.
Learning disabilities range from ‘mild’ to ‘profound’ ‘complex’ and ‘multiple’. Just like anyone else, people with learning disabilities may have other conditions – physical and/or sensory impairment, autism and/or mental health problems.
We are always seeking active new members to join us and anyone is able to come along and sit in on one of our meetings to see what we do first hand, before making any commitment. If you are interested, contact us using the details provided.
For more information about the work we do, or if you have any questions, please get in touch via our contact us page. You can also download a copy of our leaflet, which describes our services and how you can become a member.
